Getting rid of junk is typically straightforward: You collect the trash and throw them into a garbage bin. However, if you’ve got too much trash lying around, you may have to do more than that.

In some cases, you may have to pay for a junk removal service, which, as you may imagine, costs quite a hefty sum of money. But while some options are, indeed, costly, there are unorthodox ways to get rid of junk without spending much money. This article will cover four of the cheapest junk removal methods.

  1. Hire a cheap skip bin

A skip bin is a metallic container designed to hold garbage and waste materials. The regular-sized bins are costly, but the small ones sized two to three cubic meters are affordable. Moreover, unlike middle-sized containers which are typically used to carry enormous amounts of waste materials in construction areas, mini skip bins are ideal for weekly waste collections in residential areas. (1)

If you plan to use this method, you can start by contacting a skip bin rental service, preferably one that’s near your area. The company then provides you with its service details, including cost.

For your reference, mini skip bins typically cost around USD$150 which may change according to the load weight. Once the skip bin arrives in your area, you simply have to use it as you would a regular communal container. Once the scheduled waste collection arrives, the garbage trucks will collect the skip bin, along with the trash it contains, and replace it with another one. (1)

In other words, apart from throwing out the trash, you don’t have to do anything else, as opposed to the traditional method where you have to dump the waste into a landfill yourself.

  1. Get a dumpster bag

A dumpster bag is similar to a skip bin in that you keep it outside and use it as you would a regular garbage bin. Garbage trucks also collect it during waste collection and take it back once emptied, so it’s most definitely reusable. It’s cheaper than skip bins because once you buy one of these bags, you can use it as much as you would; whereas, a skip bin is only for rent. (2)

Furthermore, the bag only costs around USD$30, so the initial purchase price is also much cheaper. Perhaps the only downside of dumpster bags is that they have a lower capacity.

That, however, shouldn’t be an issue if you don’t necessarily have an enormous amount of junk to get rid of or gigantic trash. But if that’s the case, the next option may be an excellent choice.

  1. Go for full-service junk removal services

If there’s a massive piece of trash, like a broken cabinet, for example, it would be best if you rely on full-service junk removal services to throw it out for you, and for several reasons.

One, it’s easier. Two, you don’t need a vehicle to dump it into a landfill or a community incinerator. And three, it’s safer as the junk may have broken glasses that may cause harm if not handled properly. But aren’t these services quite expensive? (3)

While that may be a fair assumption, it’s actually not. This is particularly true if your locality has numerous junk removal businesses available—the rates will be very competitive.

Therefore, the fees may vary significantly, and with proper research, you may get an excellent bargain. Of course, this will not always be the case, so it depends on your location.

For your reference, the price can be as low as USD$100 or as high as USD$800.

  1. Do it the traditional way

While some communities require you to dump your waste on incinerators or landfills yourself, there are a handful of regions where there are communal containers in public areas. If that’s the case in your location, it’s best if you get rid of your junk the traditional way.

Simply collect all your trash in a garbage bag and throw it out into these communal containers. Workers paid by the community will collect these containers and take them out to disposal sites.

Keep in mind that your area may not accept certain types of waste. For example, sites may not accept scrap metal, meaning you must dispose of it yourself. But there are places that accept these wastes for recycling. Ultimately, it depends on your location.

Final words

Getting rid of junk doesn’t always have to cost much. Just keep these ways in mind the next time you have a load of junk to remove from your place.
